Bug in sermsg.c void serwrite_hex16(uint16_t v) { serwrite_hex8(v >> 8); serwrite_hex8(v & 0xFF); } void serwrite_hex32(uint32_t v) { serwrite_hex8(v >> 16); serwrite_hex8(v & 0xFFFF); } Should be: void serwrite_hex16(uint16_t v) { serwrite_hex8(((uint8_t) v >> 8)); serwrite_hex8(((uint8_t) v & 0xFF)); } void serwrite_hex32(uint32_t v) { serwrite_hex1by annodomini2 - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
You'd probably need a vacuum chamber to implement this as an ion beam would be disrupted by the atmosphere. FIB (Foil ion beam) is used in precise machining of metals, so you MAY have a 2 fold benefit. Once you have the vacuum chamber, you can consider things like EDM. One of the fundamental print speed issues is the extruder flow rate, a variable aperture nozzle could in theory help and changing nozzles, but fundamentally if you can increase the flow rate you can increase the print speed. So could we detail the limitations to increased flow rate here, which may help maximise the potential of the system. If this works can we make this thread sticky and in futby annodomini2 - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Having another thought about the variable aperture nozzle, what if we assume that the nozzle aperture doesn't have to be round and symmetrical in the x and y directions. So a strip 0.1 or 0.2mm wide and up to 1mm or 2mm long, you could in theory use SMA Linear actuator to regulate the position of a strip providing the aperture. Challenges: 1. Sealing the plate to prevent seepage and locking theby annodomini2 - Mechanics

Yes, but you wouldn't be able to use a linear voltage regulator (7805) for the control electronics. You'd need a step down switch mode, like this: Switch mode dev supply Might need more than 300ma though.by annodomini2 - Controllers
Sounds like you're either: 1. Overloading the power supply 2. Power supply is faulty Assuming you're observing a +12v rail at the supply. The other thing to consider is how many +12v rails the PSU has, if you have everything running off one rail, but there are 2 or more in the supply, may be beneficial to move the heated bed to another rail. I would suggest you disconnect the heated bed and pby annodomini2 - Controllers

Has anyone considered the possibility of making a variable diameter nozzle? This may help improve resolution in detailed areas of a part, but allow high print speed in areas where precision is less of a concern? One possible benefit being that if you can make the hole smaller, you could, in theory, close it.by annodomini2 - Mechanics
