My 2p worth. V slot wheels don't run on a sharp edge* The virtue of that 45ยบ 'v'slot is that the wheel is self centering on the rail and the bearing surfaces are flat. Putting a wheel in a square edged slot will mean either the wheel binds in the slot or the wheel has clearance to wobble around the slot. -a (* - Except dual V wheels running on openrail which is for attaching to a 3rd partby alan richard - Developers
It's not too ridiculous. I don't believe your extrusions would 'sag' at those lengths, a 40x20 would look more correct for the x axis. You'd want some diagonal or corner bracing perhaps on that box structure. As it looks it would not cope very well with being moved about. You end up with a long structure by going the 'mendel style' ie the build plate on the y-axis, it makes it twice as long asby alan richard - General
Ooh. That looks neat. Shame I haven't got a 3d printer yet. As I often say. They work ok then? Keep it square ok? Thanks aby alan richard - Extruded Aluminum Frames
I asked the supplier they said " Cubic connectors or right angle brackets are suitable for connecting but sometimes the brackets can be a hindrance as the fit internally on the frame. So it depends really what your application is. " A bit vague and I'm waiting for a reply to another enquiry. aby alan richard - Extruded Aluminum Frames
Hi. Can anyone comment on using either of these types of corner connector? or Pro's Con's? Easy to tweak the angle or good for setting a 90 degree corner? Any (dis)advantage over using just an angle bracket and overlapping sections of profile. Thank you. aby alan richard - Extruded Aluminum Frames
Thank you Zavashier. I've been 'lurking' around here a while but not posted anything. I will maybe add a thread in the extruded aluminum section. You've set me thinking to lose that 2nd Y motor now. - It looks the part but I don't think it's doing a such a lot. I would think that the Y carriage will move the same if pulled from one side as two. The stepper driver can't delivery any more powerby alan richard - Reprappers
It sounds similar to my 'work in progress' build. I went for a X-Y at the top with an elevating Z (because that's how the pro's seem to do it.) Also I would have made some sort of box enclosure for a Mendel style printer anyway, so I chose to make it all from the box. I have gone for 2 motors on the Y axis. Purely because I had the motor spare and it seemed easier to go that route than to arranby alan richard - Reprappers
I like it. That's a Mendel Max 2 frame but you're creating your own linear motion arrangement. Which, coincidentally, is exactly what I have in mind doing using a MM2 structure as a basis. What are you doing with your z axis? Are you going non standard? Keep us posted! -aby alan richard - General
