Darlington Power Transistor (NPN)

This little guy is great for powering devices with an IC. it's basically two transistors in the same package; one connects to the low-powered output from the PIC, and drives the other one enthusiastically. The net effect is that you can use the tiny current available from a PIC output pin to efficiently switch currents of several amps.
