D1: Install this *ONLY* when using a 12V supply. This makes it possible to print without having the USB cable plugged in (Some additional hardware is required to run as a "stand alone" printer - such as SD ramps or an LCD controler)
D2: Appears to be part of a circuit to protect against reversed polarity. Even so, make a habit of checking the polarity. It is just smarter to not take chances.
