The Prusa i3 (iteration 3) is the newest and current 3D Printer design by RepRap Core Developer Prusajr (Josef Prusa). The Prusa i3o is a derivative]/fork that includes both a Larger Print Surface and Many Reinforced Parts.

It is no longer sold (as a kit or prebuilt printer) by DIYTechShop.

  • Printed Parts: 35
  • Printing Size: 9" x 12" x 6.5"
  • Precision: 50 Micron Z Resolution

  • Print friendly parts with minimal cleanup
  • 9" x 12" x 6.5" Print Space (bigger than Makerbot Replicator 2)

Electronics

Stepper Motors

The Prusa i3o uses (including the Extruder), Five NEMA17 Stepper Motors:

  • Two of these Motors (the Z-Axis motors), are connected to the same Stepper Driver of the Electronics
  • If using Wade's Geared Extruder, it's Stepper Motor needs a minimum Holding Torque of 40Ncm (0.4Nm)

Controller Electronics

Just about any RepRap Controller will work for the Prusa i3o.

Required Features:

  • Four Stepper Drivers
  • One Thermistor Input and one Heater Output for the Extruder

Extruder

For the Prusa i3o

The extruder is a Wade's accessible cold end with spiky gears, as had been shipped in their kit. The Greg-Wade's from Josef Prusa's i3 repository will fit their X-Carriage.

  • Note: The Budaschnozzle needs to be aligned *perfectly* with the extruder body or else filament will need to be fed carefully into the hotend.
