Description

With higher grade plastics the main problem is layer adhesion.

Because these plastics have a higher glass temperature, the ambient temperature needs to be higher for a good layer adhesion.

Old way of getting around this

With most printers this is done by printing in an enclosed chamber with a higher room temperature (an oven).

New method of getting better layer adhesion between printed layers on FFF type of 3D printing machines

As we do not want to make an oven to print in, we want to heat a specific part of the previous printed layer to "x" degrees.

  • "x" degrees should be the temperature just under glass temperature of the material that is being extruded.
  • The specific part that is heated, is just in front of the filament that is going to be deposited.
