Current Progress

Penn State RUG has been trying to use the Next Engine 3D scanner to replicate objects and 3D print them. The scanning process is relatively simple, with a high quality scan taking around 50 minutes. Turning the point scan data into a solid object that can be converted into a 3D printable file is proving difficult. The NextEngine Scanstudio software has not successfully produced a printable file. There exists other software that makes the post-scan processing simple, however it is expensive and the RepRap class doesn't have access to it.
