Instead of splitting the belt to match the gears, wouldn't it be better to make wider gears to match the belt? --DavidCary 13:30, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

yeah, sourcing the belts is a pain, but now there's some momentum behind 5 mm belts, and they can be bought from a reprap store precut. it's cheaper to get all 3 split and sized in one package then it is to try doing it yourself. the pulleys would also have to be twice as thick, and you'd need to double up on the routing bearings, and get longer screws. Probably just easier and cheaper to leave well enough alone, or figure out an alternative to using belts altogether.--Buback 18:35, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
