Discussion

Thingiverse is a useful and controversial website. Although it's a great site for sharing 3D-designs to be printed, milled, cut or otherwise fabricated at home, it's also run by a commercially driven for-profit company.

The reason we describe the site here is not to promote its underwriters, but is to accept its value to the community, despite its limitations.

Most of the user-generated content is specifically licensed under a Creative Commons License or Public Domain. This user-content IS where the value is, and it is this user content we appreciate and support.
