Mark,

Repic sounds very cool. Now for phase 2. Tell reprap-dev about it, since you're a developer! --Sebastien Bailard 20:44, 19 November 2010 (UTC) p.s. Welcome aboard, by the way. Do you have a local RUG and all that?

virtual Mendel

Dear Mark Feldman,

Repic sounds pretty cool. Thank you for telling us about it. I added template:development to the Repic page -- does that look right to you?

The "Virtual Mendel" you casually mention sounds like it would be really useful all by itself. Is that software something you would like to share with us and let us help make it better? Perhaps someday, if it becomes realistic enough, it could give better answers to:

  • What time is the current print expected to be done?
  • Is it faster to print one part all by itself, extruding continuously until it is done, then turn off the extruder while waiting a couple of minutes for a human to remove it, and then start the next part -- or is it faster to print them all simultaneously, alternating on every layer between extruding on one part and trying not to extrude while crossing the gaps to the other parts?
  • Does this particular G-code really avoid crossing vertical and horizontal holes?
  • What is the worst-case error between the mathematically ideal involute gear tooth, the "raw" "approximate by zillions of microscopic straight lines", the EndMatching "approximate by lots of small straight lines", and the Firmware/Alternative#alternatives to G-code "approximate with a single cubic spline"? Hopefully these are insignificant compared to stepper motor step quantization, backlash, feedstock diameter variations, and other inevitable physical imperfections.
  • Would the "Virtual Mendel" be a good starting point for a programmer to build a simulation of TRap?

Excellent. Perhaps we should make a Virtual Mendel page that says a few words about where to get your software and a few tips on running it? --DavidCary 00:14, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Contact information

Hi Mark,

I have tried a couple of usual and some more subtle means to contact you but have failed.

I do hope you are still online somewhere and might care to share and perhaps allow others to assist with testing and development on your PIC controller and Virtual Mendel program. KalleP 14:15, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
