Hey Sebastien,

I was looking at how to embed the latest RepRap blog post summaries in the main page and I came to the conclusion that we'd probably need to install a media wiki extension.. same thing for the RepRap videos.

I'm not sure who would be able to do this but I think a video player extension and an rss extension in conjunction with feedburner (I can take care of the feedburner part) would be really handy for making an awesome front page (see my very beta hacked together version at Main Page/Sandbox. What do you think? Is it possible to get these?

i found the already installed video plugin (my bad) --TheOtherRob 23:37, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

I've finished the Main Page/Sandbox to a point that i think looks reasonable, what do you think? yey/nay to making it the 'live' version? --TheOtherRob 03:34, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

( ( (ping ) ) ) i've done some more updates to the Main Page/Sandbox. IMHO its a much less green/eye strain inducing scheme with easier access to important links. Let me know what you think, I'll go live with it tomorrow pending no issues. --TheOtherRob 20:13, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Navigability

Hey Sebastien, I've been working on the site navigability and have updated the Main Page to include almost all the links on the left navigation through it's sub pages. Part 2 of my plan is to kill these links in the left navigation since they clutter up the site and have always made naigation extremely difficult for myself and the local RepRappers i have spoken with. Anyways my proposal for navigation changes is here MediaWiki_talk:Sidebar and the new navigation links are here MediaWiki:Sidebar/Sandbox. As always let me know what you think, I'm giving to leave lots of time for feedback and should probably also post on IRC before going live with the changes. --TheOtherRob 21:22, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

i mucked with the sandbox a bit. Fenn 08:25, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Development Landing Page + Category Tree

I'm working on a new Development page as a way for people to get to RepRap development in a way that won't see a single page slowly grow out of control like the Builders page currently is and eventually replace it all together. The plan is to use categories and templates similar to what media wiki has done on their extensions page (you can see the development template based on this on Mendel/Metal). The issue is that to make this easily navigable we need the Category Tree extension. Could you please talk to the powers that be and request for it to be installed? Its a plugin I've used before and it worked very nicely. --TheOtherRob 05:07, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

categorytree is the closest thing I've seen to Engelbart's original wiki in 1968, and so it gets my vote. why has this stalled? --Fenn 08:33, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Sidebar Changes

Umm dude.. removing Darwin and adding MetalicaRap (which doesn't even exist yet!?!). Can we please go back to the old way for now? We should meet up/talk soon - I have an idea for cleaning up the site and making all the reprap/repstraps more accessible but it may be a bit counter intuitive at first (I still really would like a side bar with 4-6 items.. this many items actually makes navigation less accessible because of clutter/readers having to skim).

Oh yeah.. forgot to include why Darwin should stay up - It's Legacy and _lots_ of people still have them. We can't forsake Darwin people just because we'd prefer them to upgrade.

I'm assuming that Darwin users know where their docs are. I've added Huxley back, although I'm really favoring Brutis, which actually has files, instead of parasitic outgoing links.  :D

MetalicaRap stays. We need something post cutting edge. (Unless you think they'll crash and burn, and take out a chunk of reputation.)

I want to put "Mister Goggles" (name?) up there too once you've got a photo of it on a wiki page.
