In the section about the 6th Gen evolution of Greg's Wade's Geared Extruder, I express some doubts about the fact that ch1t0 was the author of some of the original ideas in his version of Greg's Wade's Geared Extruder.
Now, my point of view is that there is no problem in reusing someone else's good ideas in the RepRap community, as long as proper attribution is provided and the original license is respected; that in fact is the very basis of collaborative work. However that does not seem to be the case about ch1t0's version of Greg's Wade's Geared Extruder. An example of this: the quick release lever ch1t0 is using in his design is in fact clearly derived from a previous design by Simon Litwan, published on [Thingiverse] in May 2012 (with the OpenSCAD source code and licensed under the Creative Commons - Attribution license), but this is never mentioned, and of course there is no OpenSCAD source code file among any of ch1t0 files.
Consequently some doubt remains about whether any of ch1t0's (excellent) ideas are really his own or just somebody else's, used without proper attribution.
Also please note that I am not accusing ch1t0 of anything, it is quite possible that he released his design without thinking any further about taking the trouble of providing proper attribution for the previous ideas upon which he based himself. The real problem is that his extruder design was picked up by a company that claimed to be respectful of the GPL, however under these circumstances this claim cannot be made.
