Talk:Mendel

I wrote this warning:

WARNING: Users are reporting some problems on this machine (mainly on X axis) and it prints parts with bad quality, mainly the small holes and small segment lines -- see here and here.

Buback undo and told "mine works fine, your issues are your own. this doesn't need to go on the front page".

This problem is not an issue of own, since there are a few users with this problem as on the links I did refer. I believe this warning should stay on this Mendel 1st page so new users can know about this problems and evaluate before decide to buy the material for Mendel. If there was a page about bugs/know problems about Mendel, this warning should be placed there. Until them, I believe it should stay on this page.

Casainho: Given the number of machines out there, this can't be a design problem or everyone would be experiencing it. Clearly this isn't the case. My guess is that this is a combination of pulleys thats are a combination of poorly mounted making them eccentric or just of generally poor quality. It might also be related to insufficient belt tension. I'd suggest it might be better if we did a troubleshooting guide on how to fix this and place it on the Mendel commissioning page or alternatively create a general troubleshooting page. - Rhys

Many users don't even see this problem, because they don't have a comparation like a CNC I have and another 3D printer. My pulleys were printed on the UP printer, which have superior print quality then RepRap Mendel.

Me and others with the same problem don't know any solution.

Reorganization (Working Notes)

RepRap_Version_II_"Mendel" should be moved here. This is currently casual/working Notes, as opposed to formal documentation.

Support

I think we need a "Mendel" subforum on the forum, along with: Machines/Mendel Machines/Darwin Machines/McWire

along with Machines/Wood Repstraps Machines/Metal Repstraps Machines/Makerbot

I hate to delete a section but: "NOTE: It is being suggested here and in the press that one can build a Mendel for £300 / $520. While I cannot talk for US$ (things seem cheaper there than in the UK) I do not believe it is realistically possible to build Mendel for less than £500 - and only then if you are extremely careful about what and where you get your parts. IMO one should budget £600+ for a self built Mendel."

I put my Mendel together for $430 or £270. Changed link to a page where we can all show off our printers and help other people source their own.
