materials that a RepRap can shape
(Is there already a wiki page somewhere that lists the sorts of materials that can be shaped by RepRap?) (Perhaps List of techniques?)
- The early RepRaps only printed ??? filament, but have since been modded to print out several thermoplatic filament materials (see Printing Material Suppliers, filament, category: thermoplastic, etc.)
- The same raw thermoplastic materials, but in granule form -- GranuleExtruder
- somehow recycle stuff that was once printed out of the RepRap, but is no longer needed -- Recycler, Recyclebot
- ... wasn't there a RepRap-based machine that printed frosting? With a Full Colour RepRap we might be able to print photographic images onto cake ...
- clay -- see RJ Paste Extruder and Unfold Clay Results. Is it possible to make a high-temperature thermoplastic extruder nozzle out of fired-clay ceramic?[1]
- metal -- Casting/Pewter has been successfully done; High Temperature Metal Casting seems like it should be possible.
- metal -- selective laser sintering seems like it should be possible. It seems like we might be able to re-use some parts of the Laser Cutter.
- some kind of soluble support material
- copper-clad FR4 PCB -- Automated Circuitry Making
- some sort of microwave-resistant material?
Artwork
This really needs a section of its own, so the RepRapArtworkSection has been created.
No Weapons!
We are adamantly opposed to the creation of new weapons. However, every single other manufacturing technology that people have come up with has eventually been used to make weapons, and there is no way to make RepRap an exception. Give people an internal combustion engine, and a few will make tanks; at least many more will make ambulances.
