Required additional parts

I was looking at this kit and was wondering what I will need additionally. I'm kind of lost. I know this covers all of the "electrical" aspect, but I assume I still need the following:
Extruder
3x Stepper Motor
in terms of electronics. Is there an equivalent kit containing all of the mechanical, non-RepRappable parts? I already have access to a 3D printer, so the plastic parts can be printed.

That will be surprisingly expensive. You may want to do up a RepStrap, such as :WolfStrap.

Check with iPrint, but I think the MAXI kit you linked is the makerbot format. If you are building a Mendel you may be interested in getting the Midi kit

I got my parts from Makerbot because I was in a hurry and unfortunately found out later that makerbot does not consider the opto-switches part of the Gen 3 electronics!!

Well, they say it comes with "opto-endstops". Are they different from opto-switches?

They are one and the same.
Maker bot calls it the Opto Endstop v2.1 Kit.

Hey Joshee

Do not be mislead. The generation 3 electronics mostly assembled does NOT have the opto-endstops/switches as part of the kit. Check the page and what each kit contains.

I am quite ticked off with Makerbot as the kit is not cheap (UK final price was over £200) and everyone assumes the switches are part of the Gen 3 kit.

To be fair, the additional £40 to push it over 200 quid was import duties and handling charges, but $199 without the optos is still very expensive.

Do not make the same mistake I made.
