... as most stress is caused by temperature gradients, you can hold the building chamber slightly below melting temperature and only 'overheat' the actual building zone ... but this mean some hundred centigrades for all involved parts of the fabber!
Another possible solution is mixing materials (build alloys), so thermal stresses will be minimized.
Best DIY-methode should be powder-laser-sintering in a moderate (maybe 200 centigrades) heated bilding chamber, so you'll get a not complete solidified object with lower stress profile - and infiltrate it with fluid metal with a melting point below the one of the sintered material ...
