Nice filament reel from B & Q (UK)

I have been running my machines off one of these for a few weeks and its really nice and smooth with just the right amount of drag for a wades type extruder. It also has a wall mount should you need it. Under £20 and quite large for the money.

Good idea! I've used a very similar hoselock one to spool filament onto other spools, but as it's needed for gardening purposes, I wouldn't get away with using it for the ACTUAL spool.

Yes I have also used one of those to re-spool filament but it had too much friction to feed a machine directly, especially a moving head machine like Mendel, where any drag on the carriage causes backlash.

It is a fine line between enough friction to stop the spool unwinding itself and too much to affect the build quality.
