Advice on a new ramps board, heat in arduino usb port, and highly geared stepper

Hello! I have a few questions and appreciate your expert advice:

1. I ordered a geared stepper motor: [www.phidgets.com]. The motor works GREAT and has a ton of power....BUT it wiggles back and fourth about 2 degrees. How are you supposed to use it then except for one way motion against constant forces? Other motors we bought did the same thing.

2. I ordered a new RAMPS 1.4 from a different supplier and it gives a constant RED LED4 light no matter what I do. Doesn't seem to interfere with operations, however the arduino is getting hot

3. I'm running Arduino at 16.6 V, and find the USB port area is giving off a LOT of heat, around 60C maybe. Any ideas why this is happening?

4. Lastly, I'm trying to run 24V through RAMPS and believe that RAMPS is default setup to shunt power from its power supply to the arduino so USB is not needed. How can this be turned OFF?

thanks!
