Standalone options for reprap?

I am still absorbing all the info about hardware and electronics involved in reprap and its all more or less fuzzy right now.
I am interested in a standalone host solution for printing without computer, could you please help me out and name a few solutions avalable?
I have a vague idea that there is raspberry pi and arduino but not sure.

You can use a Raspberry Pi with repetier-server. I have done this with the addition of a wlan stick. That way i can call the printer from any webrowser in my intranet.

The pi is connected with the printer board like you would connect the printer to your computer.

You can also build an LCD control panel which can be found on thingiverse. This allows you to print from an SD card.

I have searched Thingverse and there are many lcd related things, mounts mostly, could you provide a link to the actual lcd + sd card project, thanks.
