I was having problems with the last version putting support through the wall of a hollow hallow dome but this version seems to work better and did not protrude through.

What direction is it being taken? This indicates a gui/interactive changing(generation) of gcode. But it seems more natural to me to have the slicing just be a tool inbetween the printing and designing, not a 'second designing step'?

I dont know what you want to make interactive, so what i am saying might not be relevant. Maybe some things it could be might be done non-interactively, like allowing to indicate a model to print but giving other 3dmodels, and having settings depend on inside which models you are. For instance you want different levels of fill density or perimeters in different areas of the model. Or provide other information like how likely the object will be hit from different directions, or particular 'paths of force' the object will receive.

Anybody found any info on this feature mentioned in the release notes?

ability to use multiple different layer heights in the same object

I don't see any additions to the GUI for this.
