help: what to call these printer?

Dear All,

I'm a tech in a art school and my role involves CAD and I have a Prusa a half built
MendelMax and an UP! printer and I am currently demonstrating RepRap to the students

I have just come from a meeting discussing the implementation
of 3D printers (Reprap, Makerbot, UP! etc ) around the college
include
The group hosting (the college fablab)the meeting wanted to call it 'low cost 3d printer group'

To me 'Low cost' has negative connotations, I suggested 'Desktop' someone suggested entry level

Does anyone have any better suggestions which might sound more glamorous than low cost?

Many Thanks
Simon

Entry Level 3D Printers
DIY 3D Printers
Consumer 3D Printers
DIY Prosumer 3D Printers
Professional 3D Printers

I see this as the hierarchy (improved list, off the top of my head)

So, I would name the group based on the level of printers you plain to focus on.

Note: DIY Prosumer 3D Printers, people make their own personal printers better then consumer grade printers.
Ex. The Printer John Doe has in his basement has a heated chamber, contained filament cartridge and a smoothing bath.
(Due to the fact John has no fear that the Patent Trolls will crawl through the cracks and sue him over his personal printer.)

OK thanks

some of that got a bit silly (quite rightly)

but I do like the Consumer level and Prosumer level in the title

definitely more shi-shi

3d deposition group is glamorous too

I'll suggest those at the next meeting

Thanks Again

Simon

As a very generic term "Personal 3D Printer" sounds nice to me. The PC name for computers have gone a long way.

Most of my technical comments should be correct, but is THIS one ?
Anyway, as a rule of thumb, always double check what people write.

You may be on to something.

How about P3P = Personal 3D Printer

or C3P = Consumer 3D Printer ... and early forrunner of C-3PO Droid spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
