Clues Needed for 7.5 deg Stepper

I've cobbled together a Home brew extruder with an Ex HP printer 7.5 degree Stepper.. geared down about 6 to 1 ..

But only running the whole thing with a 12 v PSU

Mechanically its works very well .. even with the 7.5 deg steps

The ramps/ Stepsticks seem to drive it without getting very warm, ( big heatsinks on the IC)..

but the motor does get quite warm almost uncomfortable in the hand ??eye popping smiley

This is the motor ....https://www.robocore.net/upload/attachments/datasheet_pm55l_048_hpg9_115.pdf

Even with the Driver board current turned down ?

Clues.. for a newbie.. confused smiley

The rated current is the current a stepper can deal with without exceeding 60 °C (80 °C ?). What you see is expected. If you want less warming, turn down current even more (and deal with the loss of torque).
