Extruder Fan settings

I recently assembled my first Prusa i3 rework by Replikeo, and I had a question about the extruder fan. Although it's great that I can tell when it's on, I was if there was some way of turning it off (through the software) until a print job has started.

This is the fan that is near the extruder.

Thanks for any help you can give.

It depends on how its wired...

Some fans are just wired into power, so are always on

Some are connected to a CPU IO line via a MOSFET, these can be controlled by software

If its the latter sending "M106 S0" to the printer should stop it and "M106 S255" should turn it on full speed

Some firmware also has "M107" to turn the fan off

if you are using the fan through the fan input.
you can control fan through the Repetier-host interface.

options are - on, off, and speed control.

you can also set at which times of the print you want different fan speeds,
or more max fanspeed for bridges etc.
