Microstepping?

Do, I have a pretty cheap prima i3 kit, works well enough when it is printing but when I was calibrating it I realized that the 1.8 degree stepper motors had no micro stepping, this doesn't really both me too much at first but now that I'm getting every thing else tuned in the biggest set back in printing quality now seems to be the wavyness of the edges of my prints caused by the steps on my extruder motor being too large.

is the lack of micro stepping caused by cheap stepper motors or motor driver? Or do I just need to turn it on in the firmware somewhere I missed?

What electronics are you using? For RAMPs, you just need to put the jumpers in place under the stepper drivers. Exactly which jumpers depends on the driver board you are using and the microstepping value you want to use. For A4988s, put all three jumpers in under each driver to get 1/16 microstepping.

Yeah it's a ramps board, not sure what stepper drivers though, don't think they are labled

Oooooohhh I see the jumpers you are talking about, THANK YOU
No where in the build guide did it mention these...

I think you will enjoy the difference. Don't forget to update the firmware steps/mm to match.

im running the ramps and want to get 1/32 microstepping. how would i do such things. I already have the drivers. do i need to remove one of the jumpers on the ramps and if so which side should i pull it from or does it matter?

For 1/32 you need drv8825 stepper drivers

and follow this table, HIGH is jumper on. Ie leave all of them on for 1/32
