J-Head w/ 24 volts??

Does anyone have experience with running the J-Head at 24v?

I don't know if I can use the stock resistor or if I need to replace it with a different resistor / heater cartridge.

Can anyone provide some guidance?

Thanks!

You can run it on 24V just fine. You need to change the following line in Marlin:

#define PID_MAX 256 // limits current to nozzle while PID is active (see PID_FUNCTIONAL_RANGE below); 256=full current

Change the 256 to 128 and you'll be fine.

MTW runs 24 volt systems on all of our printers (the MendelMax 1.5 and 2.0). We use the J-Head hotend. While the stock resistor can work, we recommend switching to a heater cartridge. akhlut's recommended configuration change is needed.

or use 8.2ohms instead. this seems to be about right to reduce risk of burnt resistor. never run power level at full on. with 8.2 ohm power level can be set to 240.
