Where to source good value stepper motors?

Can anyone advise about sources of stepper motors.

I currently have a mendelmax but want to build another raprap to a different design. I have spare RAMPS and Arduino etc, so just need the stepper motors and pulleys etc.

Looking on eBay I've seen packs of motors etc [www.ebay.com.au] for around $100 for 5 including postage.

However I've no idea which brands are good quality and which ones need to be avoided.

e.g I can see some for half the eBay price on AliExpress ( [www.aliexpress.com] ) but I've never bought through them before, as I'm always concerned about quality and general reliability of what gets delivered

Thanks

That Ali x seller you mentioned is where I buy mine from - and they're good motors!

Kysan 1124090 is the one I like best for NEMA 17. It has high torque, and having extra helps when you want move mass with authority.

they are on sale at $12.50 now.
here

they are about $14.50 from Ultimachine.

If you want bulk, like 30 or more, Kysan has pricing near $10-ish+shipping.

Question on Steppers...

Lulzbot has a stepper here: Nema 17 stepper for $13.95 and it is on reprap.org as one of the recommended steppers.

lulzbot stepper specs: 1.8 degree, 1.5A, 5.6 kg/cm, Rated voltage: 2.8 V

Kysan stepper specs: 1.8 degree, 1.5A, 5.5 kg/cm, Rated voltage: 4.2 V

So wouldn't the Lulzbot be the better motor since it has a higher torque at the same amps but lower voltage?

Seems like that would mean it is more efficient.

If not, what is the important data to look at when choosing a stepper?

Thanks.

for me, I just look at the holding torque and a reputable company making them.

If you relate cost to quality, many big $$ brands out there like Lin Engineering or the new Gecko steppers (USA made).

I can say that I have tested quite a few different steppers and for the price Kysans are the best I've ever used. They have plenty of holding torque and run cooler than others. Like said, you can snag em for $12-15. A piece online. I buy mine from printrbot as they have great customer service so it's worth paying a little bit more.

I like mpja.com for surplus steppers. You have to know what you are looking for, but you can often find some screaming deals there.
