power supply

I don't have a lot of experience with doing the power convertions.

I know my power supply can handle up to 18.5amps (16a on red wire alone), but I've read on here that it's the tip110 that will screw with me if I try to draw too much power.
I'm trying to get as much power into the nichrome wire as I can for higher and faster heat but I want to be safe too.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
thanks
Dylan

About 18W seems to be all that is needed from the heater, even for high temperature and fast extrusion. It takes less than 2 minutes to warm up, which is nothing compared to how long it takes to make anything.

A 6R heater will give about 18W and draw less than 2A.

Increasing the power any more just makes it more dangerous. If you have a fault which leaves it on, the PTFE will give off poisonous fumes above 300C I believe.

Ok, thanks for the info. I guess I'll stay at the 6ohm reccomendation then.
thanks.
