I'm working on designing a custom cantilevered printer (original thread
here). While I managed to get pretty far I ran into some issues so I figured to try and redesign some parts.
Here is an idea I had for the X-axis:
Rather than sliding both rods (similar to printrbot simple) one is solidly mounted to the Z-carriage.
- lighter and more rigid than moving both smooth rods because only one rod is moving
- requires shorter rod length for 200mm of movement
- should sag less because carriage is still supported by top rod
I'm not sure if this will actually work how I'm imagining; your thoughts?
