X axis help

I bought a partly built Mendel through ebay it came today.

The z-axis belt fits fine and the y-axis belt has already been fitted when it came but the x-axis belt is a good 8cm too long. I was thinking that I got the z and the x the wrong way around but the z fits perfectly.
Do I need to cut the belt and cut a few cm out then put where I have cut it in the grips that are attached to the extruder.
Just want to make sure before I cut a perfectly good belt.

EDIT: Also for the power supply do I need to get just a random plug and cut off the connector end and split the wires to put into my 'switching LED PSU'?

Thanks

You could cut the belt if you want to, but as long as the excess doesn't hinder the carriage movement, I wouldn't worry about it at this stage.

I have cut it and pulled it through so it is tight this seems to have worked.

Thanks
