Urgent Mendel90 Question
September 26, 2013 10:00AM
Hi everyone. Im busy sourcing parts for a mendel 90 and wanted to know... It specifies the motor length to be 47.5mm but would a shorter stepper also nema 17 as requested work?

Also, in the BOM it just says "Microswitch" I assume these are the endstops? which ones would work?

Best.

Shorter steppers have (substantially) less torque. That's why a length is given.

The length has been corrected to 47mm in the latest BOM. It is actually 47mm +/-1mm as steppers have poor tolerance for that dimension due to it being determined by a stack of laminations pressed together.

Shorter motors will need mechanical changes:
The holes for the Z brackets would need to be lower and the lead screws longer.

The X motor bracket would change as it now has a screw in the back of the motor.

The brackets to attach the D connector to the extruder and the ribbon cable to the X motor are fixed by removing the original motor screws and replacing them with longer ones. Those screw lengths would need to change.
