parallel effector arms

Hi,

as I'm modifying the existing delta designs to fit my needs I now reached the end effector and I was wondering if it is essential for the geometry calculations that the arms are parallel? I get that they should make a triangle to keep the platform nice and level, but would a trapezoid instead of a rectangle screw up the movement calculation?

They must be parallel. Otherwise, when the effector is off centre with respect to a tower, the rods will try to twist the effector. Having different towers trying to twist the effector by different amounts would not be good.
