parts db wizard

left my solder at my other workshop (i really need to find a decent live/work loft...) instead, i decided to work on the parts db. i cranked through quite a bit of stuff and got the price wizard functioning. you can check it out here:

[parts.reprap.org]

its just pretty rough right now, but it appears to work. right now it just loads in the best supplier. i need to get some ordering in there, and get the toggles in place for each supplier. all the data is loaded, its just a matter of getting it all in the right places. then i can start adding improvements like country preferences, and build parameters (kit vs raw components). that way the system can adapt to individual preferences.

also, there appears to be a bug somewhere. the total on the Darwin components page doesnt match the total that the wizard is coming up with. i'll have to double check both algorithms and find which one is acting up. i'll find that later. for now i'm just glad i got all the data loading and things running smoothly.

This looks great, Zach. One little heads up, though. The gearmotor that you buy from Pololou is not exactly the same one as Adrian used in the Mk II extruder. While it has exactly the same gearbox, the drive shaft is a bit sturdier (larger) than the one that Adrian used and will not mate with the coupling that comes with a Mk II parts set printout.

This is brilliant Zach. One thing - is it possible to add a "Units"
field to "quantity"? Sometimes it'll be a number (suggest units of
"count" for that), sometimes mm, sometimes kg etc.

Best wishes

Adrian

If someone can tell me the dimensions, I'll do an alternative coupling in AoI.

Oh yeah, there is one other difference between the GM3 and the plastic gearmotor that Adrian specified for the MK II. The GM3 has a 224:1 gear ratio while Adrian's motor has a 200:1. I regularised all the motors in Tommelise to 12v and use a channel on a 754410 dual H chip to drive it instead of a power transistor like RepRap uses, iirc. The GM2 can be ordered in either 6 or 12v. Since I run it in a pseudostepping mode I get full top-end torque all the way down to 0 rpm.

For RepRap I expect that there would be a minor tweak or two in the PIC firmware to account for the different gear ratio.

i can get dimensions when i get home...

personally, i just filed it out a bit bigger and used some jbweld to make sure it stayed on =)

No need, Zach. I've made sure that Adrian's got the dimensions he needs.
