Y axis redesign

Y axis redesign
February 06, 2012 04:16PM
I wanted to make the Y axis of my new printer simpler. So I decided to give it a go with linear bearings.

I am pretty happy with it so far, it's running quite smooth. I only need to find a way to make the bed move the full length, by either putting the rails a bit up or adjusting the design a bit.

I have updated the design, I have added a spacer object. Also instead of having the Y-axis bars under the frame bars, I have put them on them.

I think it has a really low friction as I tried to demonstrate in the vid: [www.youtube.com].

My only concern is that the bearrings have some room to move inside the bearing housings. But that might be easily fixable with some toiletpaper or something.

Maybe you have missed this, but Prusa Iteration 2 has the same layout with a single sheet of ply/MDF for the bed, see: [blog.reprap.org]
Also, there are lots of variations of LM8UU Y-axis holders: [www.thingiverse.com]
Personally, I use my own variation of this holder: [www.thingiverse.com]
