Print, print, *SPLAT!*

Print, print, *SPLAT!*

I attempted to run off a Darwin corner bracket. The thing came off the
baseboard after a mere 5 layers, and started bird-nesting. I have the
evidence as a time-lapse video if anyone is interested; you can see the
moment it decided it was going to start lifting and goes all springy.
It's uploading to YouTube now at 3rd World ADSL speeds:

I might add "ears" to the part to stop it lifting off if I can't find
any foam board. Hmm, might try a light coat of varnish. Seemed to stick
like glue to CAPA earlier.

Actually, that's brilliant! (Not the lift-off, but up to that.) In
that it's obviously going to work. How about just more inter-layer
cooling to harden up the lower layers?

Yes, it would be definitely interesting to put a good pause in between layers to see whether allowing the layers to get really cool would help the situation. If that works in a production mode you could print several parts at the same time thus allowing much more of an interval between layers of a particular part for the polymer to cool and stabilise.

ah yes... that is a good idea there.

if you simply print more brackets... you can be printing more of the
time, while the other areas are doing their cooling.

it also may be an adhesion problem... but either way its looking very
cool! the people at my workplace are very excited about it. this is
going to be huge.

That's a beautiful video, Vik. Why didn't you post it on the main blog? Just because you had a peel problem after several layers doesn't make it any less impressive.
