not clear on trimpot low setting

I have a4988 stepsticks I need to set low to start. Problem is the pot has no stop - from sainsmart.
The pogt has a flat edge. Should that be close to the main chip, or away for low setting? I know cw raises the power.

I think this tread answers you question [forums.reprap.org]

I wouldn't worry about where min and max are. Plug in your Arduino without 12V on and set your Vref to the correct computed voltage based on your steppers. Once that's set you can tweak them a little based on that point. I'd think the only time where knowing where the min or max point would be if you have unknown steppers and you were just starting low and slowly turning the drivers up until the steppers worked. Even then, you could still find the min point by looking at the Vref voltage as you adjust the pot.

Perfect. Crazy how I could not find that on my own.
