Pulley Teeth Defination Poor
July 03, 2013 06:32AM
I just build my Reprap Huxley and from the start it prints great. But when i tried to print pulleys (GT2), there is barely any teeth definition, it just prints a wavy cylinder. Upon closer inspection i saw that the spacing between the teeth is correct but they are just not deep enough.

Im using a 0.5mm nozzle.

Any ideas on how to improve this?

Maybe print slower, 2 at a time with cooling on the part (if its PLA). Make sure your belts are tensioned properly too. Having said that, you would be well advised to buy some aluminium pulleys.

Regarding belt tensioning, is there a video example of how tight the belts should be? Im really not sure.

Advice I've heard that works for my Prusa and Wallace8mm machines is to tighten the belts to a low pitched twag.

Huxley, being a smaller printer, I can't be sure.

Yeah, something like that. Perhaps like a guitar string sound when plucked.

I had same problem. After contacting Reprap, they replyed they print thier gears with a .3mm nozzle

I think a .5mm nozzle may be too big for GT2 teeth. Never have a problem with my .25mm nozzle and small gear teeth.
