Limited print surface - printing vertical instead of horizontal

Hi everybody,

I'm printing "things" since beginning of the year. The Kossel Mini is my first and only 3D printer so far. I like the design and the way it moves, and the print results.
Normally the 170mm square print surface is enough for the most builds, but sometimes If I want to print something larger, I've to rotate the object 90° to print it vertical instead of horizontal. It works for the most objects. But especially for housings I need very much support. More than 50% of the used material goes for the support. E.g.: [www.thingiverse.com] This is the object I try to print. But there is too much space between the walls. Is there anything I can do to print it with less support?

This will not directly address your problem, but one solution is to break the model into two pieces that will not require support to print. Assemble the pieces using superglue afterwards.
