SD read error since update to 0.91
April 15, 2014 09:21AM
Hello,

I just updated my prusa I3 with the repetier Firmware 0.91 running into problems.
Before updating from 0.83 to 0.91 everything runs fine.
Now I got randomly SD Card Errors. The printer stops but keeps the heaters and the menu alive.

What is wrong? Should I go back to version 0.83?

Here is my configuration:
RAMPS 1.4, Smart Controller from Reprapdiscount (may be a clone), Prusa I3

Any help would be great.
Many Thanks.

In the meanwhile I tried many things:
using other SD Cards,
using shorter cables from Arduino to Display/SD card
powering the Arduino from an USB power supply

without success.
The print stops randomly with the SD read error.
The SD Card is accessible only after a power down of the printer.
Remove of the Card or a reset of the Arduino dont helps.

Does anybody has an idea what can be wrong?

Many Thanks

I think I found the Bug. I´m using a really old computer powser supply, which i think is not really stable. Going to test a stronger led power supply.

Same problem here. Some times the printer stops and a message error is show in the display "SD ERROR". When the job print is finished without problem, at the end the display show a message "SD ERROR FIXED".

My computer power supply is ok.

I´m using: Ramps1.4, Smart Controller, Arduino Mega2560, Prusa Mendel.

Same Problem, also with the Mega 2560, Delta.
When you look in the pins.h file there is in the pin assignment for this controller the line

#define SDPOWER -1

maybe this is the problem? But on which pin should it be?

Hi people, The problem with SD card was solved.

The problem was the connector end of flat cable. This connector connects in a EXP1 connector of Smart Controller. There was a bad contact in the wire/pin 4 of the flat cable that made the printer fail during the job printer. I disassembly the connector and I adjusted the flat cable against the contacts of the connector. I assembled the connector again and made some printings without errors.

I believe that was a hardware problem, not a firmware problem because the errors in the SD card disappeared.

I hope that this information helps many people.

Hello from Munic !

I have had the same problem with randomly SD Card Error.
Additional to that in the same time the usb connection to the RUMBA Board was lost.
I found that the failure was 100% repruduceable when i switch on the Headbed.
The headbed needs the most current in my setting. So this high peak of current at switching on was the reason that the power supply
had a short break through so that the controller on RUMBA failed.
I have put in that power supply a week ago. It was one without fan but in bad quality.
After put in the old and better power supply the problem was fixed.
