Squashed lettering

Hi, if I do some lettering on a flat disc about 1mm high (the lettering) it all gets squashed. Are there any specific reasons for this?

1mm is too small for lettering. Consider that the extruded filament is around 0.5mm in width, so you are not going to be able to print details much smaller than that. For example, if the letter "E" is 1mm high, the three horizontal arms will need to be a fair bit less than 0.33mm wide to be able to be printed as separate lines. 3mm would be the smallest height lettering that I would expect to have any chance of printing.
