Printable Bed plate upgrade

Following with the ethos of the Reprap printers being able to reproduce I have designed printable parts for Ormerod. These parts help with the bed stability and can be used with the existing MDF bed plate or with Davek0974's aluminum triangular bed plate.

Part STl's are available on Thingiverse. [www.thingiverse.com]

That looks good! A very clever and yet simple design. I'll give printing of it a go later this weekend

Surely the bed top is bigger than the glass, so cannot be printed on the Ormerod?

Hi Dave,

Yes you are right, I have included the bed top to show the position for the additional holes at the front right & left.

The four parts to print are the :-

Left_Belt_Grip.stl
Cross_Rib.stl
Rear_Rib.stl

and if you are re-using the MDF Bed top
Front_support.stl

Would you recommend printing these as solid, or with any particular amount of infill?

I printed my set with line infill 20%.

About that "left belt grip". It has the function of a belt tensioner. What worries me is that the belts entire force goes through that screw using only sideways friction. Slipping, wear and tear seem unavoidable. Is it really reliable in the end?

I guess time will tell. All I know is its now easier to tension the belt and circles now look more circular after the mod.

Thanks Les for the work

I hope to print and mount it tomorrow, I'm really curious.

About the Z axis top mount that I see on thingiverse, you read my mind! it's a long time that I think at this mod to reduce the Z rod moving, but I'm not soo good with Cad... so thaks smileys with beer

Your welcome Zonzo,

For anyone else that have not seen the Z axis top mount here's the link www.thingiverse.com/thing:305076.

Les,

what kind of setting are you use on slic3r?

I see that in the stl some pieces are set vertical and not flat on the bed, so the contact point is really small, do you use support? or simply Slice with Cura and rotate that part?

Zonzo,
Turn the Z_upper_mount2.stl over 180 to print. I didn't use any support when I printed.
