I just bought the low profile glass retaining clips but I don't know how to fit them really. I know they should be quite easy but there are a few things that I wanted to ask. When I try to put them on, the cardboard gets in the way. do I have to take it out or cut a larger slot in it? Any help would be great.

Yes you do need to cut out larger slots. See [forums.reprap.org] and the following posts in that thread.
