The standard bed heater does not need an external FET. If you want to drive a more powerful bed heater, best go for 24V to avoid needing very thick wires to it. Then the Duet can handle a heater of up to about 288W (i.e. 12A), or probably a little more if it is a Duet 0.8.5.
If you do need to go higher than 12A or so then this [
reprap.me] is probably a good device to use. Unlike a straight mosfet, it is opto isolated, so it won't give problems with differing ground potentials.
