Firmware 060-16-01-2014 Z axis problem
January 19, 2014 07:24PM
After I updated the firmware to 060 to avoid problems with the USB connection with pronterface (that works) I have a strange behaviour.
To align the z-axis I take 1 point at a bearing an do a G92 Z0. I move Z up 1 mm and move XY axis to another place.
When I down Z with just -0.1. There is no real Z axis move down. The stepper just clicks no real rotation of the wheels. The next -0.1 does move the Z-axis again like before.
The problem is that the Getpos has Z -0.2 in calculation, but in fact Z is has just moved -0.1. So after lets say 4 points I get back on P1 the Z value I get there is -0.4 mm.
Anyone has the same experience? And a solution (not revert back the firmware)?

I think you've downloaded the firmware from the 'duet' branch, rather than the 'master' branch. The duet branch is the development branch, and you should expect odd behaviour, particularly as a recent update has made a huge change to the axis movements.

I suggest using the 'master' branch, which is the recommended branch for customers wanting to print. Currently firmware version 057a, which is proving very stable at the moment.

If you followed a link in the instructions to get to the 'duet' branch, please can you point it out, so I can change it to the 'master'?

I am spreading wrong information about RepRapFirmware-master.
See step 6 of my message about building your own Duet firmware.

Step 6 - Download the RepRapFirmware source code

Visit RepRapFirmware @ [github.com]
Click "Download ZIP" button on the right side of the page
Copy contents of "RepRapFirmware-master.zip" to /home/user/workspace/RepRapFirmware
Click "Replace all" when other files with the same name already exist.

Unfortunately I can not edit my own messages when they are old...
