There's a useful and informative article by whosawhatsis here [www.evernote.com] that covers causes and prevention of Z axis ridges (of various kinds), I think it's a reprint from issue 1 of reprap magazine (https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/reprapmagazine/RepRapMagazine_Issue_1_lowres.pdf)

That was quite interesting, thanks.

I have now got the right profiles in and last night I printed the herringbone filament gears which came out exceptionally well, the 0.24mm layer was the issue i think.

Possibly an issue with the filament reel jerking the X-axis arm slightly as it unreeled, will check that out too.

Another RS Ormerod Mk1 meets the world smiling smiley

Retired now but I used to make....
CNC Machined Mk1 aluminium bed support plates for the Ormerod
CNC machined X-plates and ribs for Mk1 & Mk2 Ormerods
CNC machined bed support arms for the Mk2 Ormerod.
Dual Hot-End heatsink blocks.
