Btw I didn't notice any different resistor (compared to the other steppers IC) or any bad solder on the X axis stepper IC.
If you wanted to investigate further and have some electronics knowledge you could look at the schematic of the Duet and measure some voltages at the inputs to the driver, comparing the X-axis voltages to the Y-axis voltages, both static and while commanding a movement. The PCB may have a hairline break on a track, or a via that isn't properly plated-through. Such faults are more common than a bad I.C. in my experience.
