My SmartRap Core Build V1.0
May 03, 2015 09:03AM
I started making a SmartRap Core. I have a question about, the Z GT-2 or M8 threaded rod? I have tested the GT-2 and it can be used for the Z. But what is more accurate? GT-2 or threadedrod M8?

Buildsize Width 200 Heigt 300 Depth 200
Wood 12mm
XYZ Smooth Rods 8mm
Z threaded rod M8
Motors Nema 17

Woodframe 12mm Multiplex
Bottom 389x322
Left 322x440
Right 322x440
Back 365x440

Smooth Rods 8mm
Z 2x410
Y 2x265
X 2x255

This is the BOM for my build

My Prusa i3 is busy printing all partsspinning smiley sticking its tongue out

I will keep a record here of my build

Im going with the threaded rod. I feel the belts could get wobbly and lose tension after a while i would rather have a set and forget type of system

Personally I can't speak for the the belts as I have yet to use them, but they shouldnt loose tension at any rate faster then the x/y axis, resolution on a 20t pulley should be as good as your x/y, it is definately faster then a leadscrew But I do prefer the leadscrew, its what I know, its familiar, it doesn't fall down under power failure, or if I disable steppers during a pause. If your coming from a Prusa you will feel right at home with the Z leadscrew.

The youmagine openjscad threaded z is broken last I heard

This is my fix, works well been using it for a while now without touching it

Has anyone already made the hotend suspension suitable for E3D V6?

There is an updated STL link in one of the threads here for it

Is this what you are after? [onedrive.live.com]
See my pre-build questions thread if that doesn't work.
