Cooling fan suggestions for Mendel

Hi All

I'm looking at adding an extra fan/fans to my reprappro Mendel with melzi electronics to cool my prints (currently I only have the fan that keeps the hot end carriage cool), is there a prefered fan set up and make and model of fans for someone who prints mostly quite detailed parts at 0.1 or 0.2 layer height with lots of awkward bridging (mainly CT scans). I recently bought 2 Gelid Solution Silent 4s, (I have some Gelids on my PC) but I can't get them to work at all, not sure what I'm doing wrong........

Thanks

John

The fans you have should work fine. They appear to be 3 pin PWM 12V PC fans. The standard connectors:

[pinouts.ru]

Will do fine with just +12 and ground. The "sensor" pin simply does not get connected. If they don't run when set up that way, they are defective. The most common issue is getting them hooked up backwards .....

Thanks very much

Turns out the fans don't work, I checked the voltage coming out on my multimeter and it's fine, I'll arrange a swap tomorrow.

Are two fans better than one?
Should I use a fan shroud?

Cheers

John
