attempted to write invalid text to console - ubuntu

Hi,
I have had an i3 working well using Pronterface on Windows XP. I am trying to move over to Ubuntu but am having issues connecting to Reprap successfully.

In Pronterface I am connecting to /dev/ttyACM0. Computer seems to know that reprap is there but htting connect brings back 'attempted to write invalid text to console' in Pronterface and not much else happens.

I have installed Arduino stuff I think. If I go into Ardunio IDE>Serial monitor I get a load of gobbley-gook characters back. Not sure if this has anything to do with it?

Anyone know what might be causing this? I am a newbie when it comes to Linux. I have not reflashed ardunio (RAMPS1.4) reprap - cant see anything in configuration file that is relevant.

Any pointer much appreciated - dont really want to go back to winXP

answering my own question....

I missed this webpage: reprap.org/wiki/Printrun#ubuntu
If you go down to connection failed with printer section and run patch... TAAA DAAAA - issue fixed.
