[SOLVED] Prusa Mendel i3 z axis "bounce back" when homing
May 22, 2014 05:45PM
Hi folks,

I'm trying to level my bed, but I'm having the issue where the z axis will bounce back up around 1 mm or so after hitting the end stop.

The leveling instructions describe how the extruder nozzle needs to be about the width of a sheet of paper away from the bed, so this will not work in the current state.

My guess is that there is some setting in Configuration.h that I need to set.

Thanks!

it does bounce back but should raise then lower, when it raises does the endstop you should see it slowly move back to hit endstop again show as triggered (m119) you'll prob find it is i retracts 1mm or how far you want in the firmware but should move back to trigger the endstop

Gotcha! In this case, the z axis was not bouncing back enough to untrigger the endstop, I had to change:

#define Z_HOME_RETRACT_MM 1

to:
#define Z_HOME_RETRACT_MM 5

in Configuration_adv.h

Thanks!!

i have mine 1mm it should retract 1mm the move back slower because that 1mm is fine adjusting itself
