New XYZ lead screw RepRap

Hi all,

Designed and built our own RepRap recently.
- It uses lead screws on all 3 axis
- 140 x 140 x 140mm build volume
- It's small and print's relatively slow, but it is highly accurate.
(also a silicon heated bed).

We will release all the STL files, part lists we used soon.

Here's the link to the short assembly and overview vid
Here's a link to the public cad file (onshape)

Keen to hear what everyone thinks smiling smiley

Sort of Trinus copy/derivative, some added design flair, tidy, does the job print look good.

Any idea how for bringing the printer up to higher speeds maybe servomotors?

Belts and pulleys maybe? winking smiley
If I print slow with belts, I bet I can achieve the same accuracy. But I can also print fast, when accuracy isn't important.

When is accuracy unimportant? If a bird's nest is acceptable, why not just make the part some way that doesn't require an expensive piece of hardware and extensive, arcane knowledge of its operation? Sugru, clay, wood...

There are a few things about this design that I would do differently, but it seems to work OK as evidenced by the high quality of the prints it produces. I think small size allows a lot of things to work OK that would fail miserably in a larger machine. 3D printed parts, flat frame pieces (especially wood), dual motor Z axis, and 4 point "leveling" of the bed, and messy, outboard electronics, all bother me.

Exactly: at the speeds I can reach with "trinus style" printer the difference between belts and leadscrews is probably negligible.
So if i can use the added precision from the leadscrews with high speeds, then we really got something.

2x12mm rails sunk into a kitchen worksurface provides a very good minimal base to work from, no need for second z,
making a small xy table is a good little challenge I'm hoping to tackle soon.
